Two girls from Rugby were found safe and well in Cornwall by Devon and Cornwall Police. Warwickshire Police subsequently arrested six people on suspicion of abduction: four in Cornwall and two women from Rugby. The suspects, all known to the girls, remained in custody, and police said there was no wider threat to the community while enquiries and house-to-house investigations continued.

Ann Widdecombe's funeral will be a private Requiem Mass at Buckfast Abbey on August 12, attended by close family and friends. Her family has asked the press to stay away and the public not to bring flowers, while the abbey will publish the order of service and later release a small number of official photographs. Widdecombe, who died at her Dartmoor home on July 8, regularly worshipped at the abbey and is being remembered by its monastic community for her faith, warmth and public service.
