Taxi driver whipped wife with belt and asked her, 'Are you abiding by my rule?'
Taxi driver Sorif Uddin admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and strangulation after repeatedly verbally abusing his wife, whipping her with a belt and choking her during separate incidents in Birmingham. The victim recorded parts of the violence and later called police, describing lasting anxiety, depression and suicidal feelings. Birmingham Crown Court sentenced Uddin to two years suspended for three years, 200 hours of unpaid work and a relationship-skills course, while imposing a seven-year restraining order. The judge said the offending was extremely serious but concluded he could be reformed in the community.

Woman 'tampered with boy's drink' after googling 'worst thing to mix' with his medicine
