Disposable BBQs removed from UK supermarket shelves
UK supermarkets including Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Co-op have temporarily removed disposable barbecues from sale during hot, dry and drought conditions that are increasing wildfire risks. Wilko and The Range have taken similar steps, following voluntary guidance from the National Fire Chiefs Council and the British Retail Consortium. The decision follows serious fires in Wales and elsewhere, with more than 700 wildfire incidents recorded in England and Wales this year. Labour MP Jon Pearce welcomed the retailers’ action but urged smaller shops and the government to support longer-term measures, including consideration of a ban on disposable barbecues in public spaces.
