6 Questions You Need to Avoid Paying TV Licence Fee
People may avoid buying a TV licence if their household does not watch live television, record programmes, or use BBC iPlayer. TV Licensing’s declaration asks six questions covering live TV across broadcast channels and streaming platforms, foreign channels, BBC iPlayer, and recording. A licence is still required for live television broadcasts on platforms such as YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, or Netflix, while most on-demand content does not require one. Those found watching, recording, or illegally streaming live programmes without a licence could face prosecution, legal costs, compensation, and a fine of up to £1,000, or £2,000 in Guernsey.
