Surrey warned over amber heat health alert as fifth heatwave looms over UK
A fifth UK heatwave is expected to push temperatures in Surrey and much of England into the mid-30s, prompting amber heat health alerts from August 11 to August 14. England and Wales are experiencing severe drought after their driest July on record, with hosepipe restrictions affecting 23 million customers, falling water levels, crop and livestock concerns, and widespread wildfires. Rain forecast for the weekend is expected to provide only limited relief. Health officials advise people to stay hydrated, avoid the hottest part of the day, keep homes cool and check on vulnerable relatives, while the Met Office says hazardous-heat warnings are unlikely because the conditions will remain dry rather than humid.
