Drunk stag-do BA passenger in row over toilet as co-pilot forced to act
Emmet Moynihan, 31, was fined £2,224 after pleading guilty to boarding a British Airways flight from Heathrow to Las Vegas while drunk and failing to follow a pilot’s lawful commands. He verbally abused crew after being told to return to his seat instead of using the toilet, lunged at passengers filming him and required intervention from the co-pilot. The court heard that the plane was still on the ground, a factor that avoided referral to the Crown Court; Moynihan must also pay an £890 surcharge and £85 in costs.
Locals 'felt a bang' as earthquake rocks Grimsby and surrounding towns
A magnitude 2.2 earthquake struck near Grimsby in Lincolnshire on August 25, with residents in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and nearby areas reporting brief shakes, bangs and rumbles. The British Geological Survey recorded the tremor at a depth of 5km and noted that although hundreds of earthquakes occur in the UK annually, only a small number are felt by residents. Larger magnitude-four earthquakes occur roughly every three to four years, while magnitude-five and magnitude-six events are much rarer.
Doctor Who star Billie Piper's 'obsessive' stalker jailed on his birthday
Philip Jerome, 49, was sentenced to 12 months in prison after admitting four breaches of a stalking prevention order concerning Billie Piper. Police found images of Piper and posts, including AI-generated images and a sexually suggestive comment, on his phone and X activity. Jerome had previously been subject to restraining orders after attending Piper’s home, contacting her family and approaching her at a Comic-Con, for which he was imprisoned in 2022. The judge cited his sexual interest, entrenched stalking behavior and repeated failure to obey court orders, while his defence highlighted his autism diagnosis and psychological support.
