Mummified remains of missing sex offender found in Somerset caravan six months on
Mummified remains of Richard Scatchard, a convicted sex offender who disappeared after the death of his partner Kelly Faiers, were discovered in a caravan in Watchet six months after he vanished. An inquest heard that police found no evidence he was alive after October 2023, and a wristwatch still set to British Summer Time suggested he likely died before late October. A post‑mortem revealed severe decomposition, rib fractures and traces of alcohol and sedative compounds, but the cause of death remained unascertained. Investigators found no signs of third‑party involvement or self‑harm. The inquest also noted Scatchard had hidden his relationship with Faiers from probation officers and previously breached licence conditions. An earlier inquest concluded that Faiers had been unlawfully killed.
