Radio station falsely announced King Charles’ death before staff member fled
Radio Caroline breached Ofcom rules after its Barry Marsh Show mistakenly broadcast messages announcing King Charles III’s death, followed by the national anthem and about 16 minutes of silence. The station took roughly 30 minutes to issue an apology and correction. Ofcom ruled that the broadcast was a significant inaccuracy on a matter of major public importance and breached requirements for accurate, impartial news and prompt correction. Radio Caroline said a staff member had played the files out of curiosity, then fled the premises after realizing the mistake; the employee was reprimanded and the station removed the files and reinforced its procedures.
