Mary Falconer: Elite climber chasing 2028 Olympic dream
Fifteen-year-old Welsh climber Mary Falconer is emerging as one of the UK's leading youth athletes after taking up bouldering three years ago to cope with the death of her mother, Anca. A 2025 Scottish bouldering and Irish national lead champion with numerous podium finishes, she trains intensively and aims to compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Despite having been selected for England, Falconer hopes to represent Romania, her mother's country, and has already been accepted by the Romanian team. Her father Richard has built a home gym to support her development, while climbing has given Falconer emotional focus, purpose and a growing public profile.

Wales' padel boom and why it's here to stay
Padel has rapidly expanded across Wales, growing from no courts five years ago to 58 across 16 venues, with participation rising sharply. Its popularity stems from accessibility, sociability, and year‑round play, supported by new facilities and major tournaments. Growing competitive pathways are producing Welsh talent, while high court prices remain a challenge that is expected to ease as more courts open. Tennis Wales is investing in increased access, particularly for underrepresented groups. With IOC recognition, momentum is building for padel to become an Olympic sport, potentially debuting in 2032.
