A burst water pipe on Saxtead Road in Framlingham caused low water pressure and a temporary loss of mains supply for 38 customers, who received bottled water while repairs were made. Essex and Suffolk Water repaired the leak and closed the road for safety, expecting it to reopen by Wednesday. Recent hot weather has led to several similar pipe failures across Suffolk, including incidents in Haverhill and Ipswich.

Ipswich Borough Council is considering a public consultation on introducing High Street Rental Auctions to address long-term vacant commercial units in the town centre. The scheme, enabled by the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023, would allow the council to secure short-term tenants when landlords fail to fill properties. Council leader Neil MacDonald says the measure aims to boost footfall, support local businesses and revitalise the area. If approved on July 14, a consultation would decide whether to designate an HSRA zone. The council argues the mechanism offers a faster, less costly alternative to compulsory purchase orders and would help break cycles of persistent vacancy and unrealistic rents.
