How golden Emma Finucane mastered the pressure to make Commonwealth Games history
Welsh cyclist Emma Finucane became the first rider in 96 years to complete a Commonwealth Games sprint clean sweep, winning gold in the time trial, sprint, team sprint and keirin in Glasgow. She credited improved emotional regulation and a willingness to embrace the pressure of being the rider to beat, while defeating strong opposition including Olympic champion Ellesse Andrews. The achievement made Finucane the first Welsh woman to win four gold medals at a single Commonwealth Games, surpassing Olivia Breen’s record. She plans to rest before preparing for the World Championships and the 2028 Olympics.
