Former University of Cambridge Professor at Centre of Plagiarism Row Is Found Dead
Jason Arday, the University of Cambridge’s youngest Black professor, was found unresponsive at his home in Battersea at age 41. Police said the death was unexpected but not suspicious, and its cause remains unknown. Arday resigned from Cambridge on August 5 after allegations concerning plagiarism and inaccuracies in his academic and personal claims; he acknowledged mistakes but rejected the allegations, while a Liverpool John Moores University inquiry had cleared him of misconduct. Cambridge announced independent reviews of its appointment and related procedures. His family and publisher said he had faced sustained abuse, while Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Deborah Prentice and Education Secretary Lucy Powell expressed their condolences.
