UK government confirms major student loan change from September
The UK government has confirmed student loan interest rates and repayment thresholds for the 2026–27 period. From September 1, the applicable RPI rate will be 4.1%. Plan 1 borrowers will see their repayment threshold rise to £28,005 from April 2027, while Plan 2 and Plan 3 interest rates will be capped at 6% despite rates that could otherwise reach 7.1%. Borrowers are advised to monitor official updates because rates may change during the academic year.
