England recycling rules: 6 kitchen items no longer accepted in bins
Recycling reforms under England’s Environment Act 2021 now prohibit several common kitchen items from household recycling collections. Drinking glasses, glass cookware, ceramic crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, and coffee pods must be disposed of through general waste or taken to recycling centres depending on the material. The changes aim to standardise collections and reduce landfill, though some councils are exempt from implementation until 2040. Guidance encourages reuse, donation, or specialised recycling where available.
