Anthony Murray, 25, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 18 years for stabbing his sister’s boyfriend, Joe Burton, in the back with a combat knife shortly before New Year in 2025. The attack followed an evening of drinking, drug use and arguments at Murray’s flat in Bury. Murray initially lied to police and claimed someone else had stabbed Burton, but footage from a pet camera monitoring his dogs captured the attack. The judge acknowledged Murray’s psychological vulnerability and history of self-harm but said these did not remove his responsibility. Burton’s mother described the lasting loss to her family and the future her son would never share with his daughter.
