Property sales in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse have been significantly delayed after an IT system upgrade disrupted mandatory land searches, leaving some homeowners waiting months. Residents and estate agents warned of mounting stress, financial impact and stalled transactions. Both councils apologised, citing the complexity of replacing decades‑old systems and said additional resources were being deployed to clear the backlog and restore normal service.

A long‑running Oxford aquatic shop, The Goldfish Bowl, is closing after nearly 70 years, prompting widespread tributes from residents who valued it as a community asset and educational space for children. Owner Barry Allday cited retirement, rising costs and traffic measures as reasons for closing, and customers and local organisations, including a nearby children's hospice, expressed gratitude for the shop’s influence. Remaining fish will be sold or donated before the July closure, and a community fundraising effort has raised more than £2,500 for a retirement gift for Allday and his wife.
