Highway Chiefs Support £1m New Forest Skatepark Plan
Hampshire County Council’s highways department has withdrawn its objection to Rubicon Industries’ £1 million plan to convert Redhall House on Hardley Industrial Estate into an indoor skatepark, subject to planning conditions. Revised proposals address concerns about event traffic and parking by providing 42 spaces, pre-allocated permits, traffic marshals and shuttle buses operating before and after events. The facility is intended to train elite skateboarders, potentially including Olympic competitors, and generate jobs and local economic activity, but it would not be open to the public for everyday use. Councillor Allan Glass supports the proposal’s employment and sporting benefits, while Councillor Peter Armstrong is disappointed that local young people would not have regular access.
