Hampshire woman jailed after pleading guilty to hit-and-run
A 47‑year‑old woman from Basingstoke received an 18‑month jail sentence for hitting a 17‑year‑old cyclist and fleeing the scene, leaving him with permanent facial scarring. The crash occurred when she drove on the wrong side of the road with a fogged windscreen, then abandoned her damaged vehicle and failed to report the incident for two days. She pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving and dangerous driving and was also given a two‑year driving disqualification. Police highlighted the severity of her actions and commended the victim for his cooperation during the investigation.
