Bank holiday for Boxing Day moved from December 26
Because Boxing Day falls on a Saturday in 2026, the substitute bank holiday in England and Wales will be observed on Monday, December 28. The remaining 2026 bank holidays are the Summer Bank Holiday on August 31 and Christmas Day on December 25. In 2027, Christmas Day and Boxing Day will fall on a Saturday and Sunday, making December 27 and 28 substitute bank holidays.

Rare centenary 50p coin worth thousands is a British first
A new 50p coin celebrating 100 years of Grand Prix racing in Britain has been released by The Royal Mint, marking the first UK coin to feature motorsport. Designed with agency Interstate, it depicts both the 1926 Brooklands car and a modern 2026 Formula 1 car. Brooklands Museum welcomed the commemoration. A gold version made from recycled gold supports the Mint’s sustainability goal. Prices range from £15 to £2,420, with availability through August 2 at The Royal Mint Experience.
