Keep your bedroom cool during heatwave by placing item on the windowsill before bed
A heatwave forecast to bring temperatures above 30°C across much of England has prompted warnings of tropical nights and heat‑related stress. Energy specialists recommend placing bowls of cold water or ice on windowsills or near fans to cool indoor air by drawing in heat and creating a cooler airflow. The UK Health Security Agency issued amber heat‑health alerts, while British Gas and LEAP Energy Advice endorsed the method as an inexpensive alternative to air conditioning.

Free bus pass delayed for thousands in England due to state pension age rise
Eligibility for free bus passes in England is being delayed as the State Pension age gradually rises from 66 to 67. People born between July 6 and August 5, 1960 will wait an extra four months to claim their pension and bus pass, as the timetable links both entitlements. The delay increases month by month for those with later birthdays until the transition completes in 2028, after which anyone born after March 5, 1961 becomes eligible at 67. Government departments confirmed the phased schedule and the legal changes accelerating the pension age increase.
