Leigh Bus Journey Decision Helped Give Stranger a Second Chance
Hannah Crawshaw, a 30-year-old reablement support worker from Leigh, donated stem cells to an older man in the United States after joining the DKMS UK donor register in 2016. She registered after reading about a child who needed a donor and was matched nine years later. Following medical checks, she donated in Sheffield in an outpatient procedure and was told the transplant could give the anonymous recipient a second chance at life. Crawshaw said she would donate again and encouraged others aged 16 to 55 to join the register, while DKMS UK highlighted the importance of compatible donors for people with blood cancers and disorders.
