Congo says 2,000 people have died in history's fastest-growing Ebola outbreak
At least 2,011 people have died among 4,381 confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, making the outbreak the fastest-growing on record. The response has been hampered by rebel violence, poor roads, disrupted communications, payment-related work stoppages, misinformation and community distrust. The outbreak has spread across five eastern provinces near South Sudan, Uganda and Rwanda, while the lack of approved vaccines or treatments for this strain and delayed care have contributed to the high fatality rate.
