Greenock Cricket Club Crowdfunder Raises £34,000 in Two Weeks
Greenock Cricket Club has raised nearly £34,000 toward a £60,000 crowdfunding target in the first two weeks of a campaign supporting a major sustainability and clubhouse improvement project. The plans include heating and insulation upgrades, energy-efficient lighting, solar panels and wider infrastructure improvements. British Gas’s Energy For Tomorrow programme will provide £2 in matched funding for every £1 raised, provided the campaign reaches its target. The club says the project will reduce energy costs, improve long-term financial resilience and support its community work, including free memberships and equipment assistance.

Morton's worst ever season in 1960/61 as club finished last
Greenock Morton endured its worst season in 1960/61, finishing bottom of Division Two in 19th place and requiring re-election to retain its Scottish Football League status. The club conceded 93 goals, won only five league matches and saw average home attendances collapse to 2,011, down sharply from a decade earlier. Majority shareholder John S. Thomson invested in stadium improvements and introduced an ambitious player-pay scheme, but his decision to manage the team, disputes with the SFA and conflict with supporters contributed to mounting instability. Most of the squad was released, and successive takeover attempts failed before Robert Taylor and Hal Stewart acquired the struggling club.

Neil Bibby on Inverclyde problems and Andy Burnham
Labour MSP Neil Bibby argues that Inverclyde's problems should be addressed through locally controlled solutions rather than centralised decision-making by the Scottish Government. He praises Andy Burnham's commitment to devolving power beyond Westminster and Holyrood, while urging First Minister John Swinney to cooperate. The planned relocation of Greenock police station to the former IBM building is cited as evidence that cooperation among Police Scotland, Inverclyde Council and Riverside Inverclyde can deliver positive local outcomes.
