Bolton Council approved £2.39 million in capital funding to carry out significant structural and systems improvements at Brandwood, Heathfield and Claypool primary schools after costs rose far above initial estimates. The increased spending is driven by a full roof replacement required at Brandwood and expanded heating and infrastructure upgrades at Heathfield and Claypool. Councillors approved the measures without debate, with officials explaining that council‑run schools rely on central government capital grants for major works, unlike church schools and academies, which must fund their own repairs.
