Plan for major new earth bund on Thruxton Aerodrome
Plans have been submitted for a substantial new earth bund along the eastern side of Thruxton Aerodrome to reduce noise and visual impact on nearby village homes. The proposal covers nearly eight hectares and aims to improve acoustic screening, preserve existing hedging and trees, and enhance biodiversity through meadow planting. The bund would extend and heighten existing earthworks around the racetrack, rising between five and eleven meters depending on terrain. The statement supporting the application describes the project as proportionate and beneficial, offering both visual and environmental improvements while providing a buffer between the airfield and Thruxton village. The planning application has been lodged with Test Valley Borough Council and awaits public comment ahead of a September determination deadline.
