Mohammed Khan, 25, from Bradford, was jailed for three years and four months and banned from driving for five years and seven months after driving his Mercedes A45 at more than 100mph in a 30mph zone on Halifax Road, hitting a 17-year-old boy and causing life-changing injuries including the loss of a leg. Khan fled the scene, removed the vehicle’s number plates and arranged for the car to be hidden. He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice. West Yorkshire Police said the case demonstrated the catastrophic consequences of dangerous driving and emphasized its Vision Zero road-safety work.

Man admits murder of woman in Kirklees before trial
Gareth Brook, 34, of Fernside Avenue, pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court to murdering Lisa Smith, 33, in Almondbury in December 2025. Smith suffered severe head injuries during the attack and died in hospital two days later. Brook will be sentenced at a later date, while police continue to support Smith’s family.

Rehan Ali, 24, from Bradford, was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting multiple child sexual offences. He used Snapchat to befriend girls aged seven and eight and contacted a decoy profile posing as a 13-year-old girl through Facebook and WhatsApp, engaging in sexual communications and attempting to incite sexual activity. The court imposed a sexual harm prevention order and required him to sign the sex offenders register. Bradford police urged parents and young people to report suspicious online content.

Man dies after car hit barrier on M180 as police launch appeal
A 36-year-old man died after a grey Audi S3 collided with a barrier on the westbound M180 near the M18 roundabout in Doncaster on 22 July 2026. Humberside Police attended and referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because of prior contact with the driver; the matter was later returned to the force’s Professional Standards Department. Police are seeking witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage.

“Tyler Clarke Blew Up Our Lives”: Burglar Who Sexually Assaulted 94-Year-Old Woman in Her Own Home Jailed
Tyler Clarke, 25, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court to an extended 18-and-a-half-year sentence, including 13-and-a-half years in prison, for burgling and sexually assaulting 94-year-old Sheila Wood in her Doncaster home. Fingerprints and forensic samples linked Clarke to the crime, while CCTV clothing evidence and his discovery hiding in a wardrobe helped secure his arrest. Wood died before sentencing, and her family said the attack destroyed her sense of safety, independence and peace of mind. Detective Sergeant Lee Robinson said forensic evidence was pivotal to identifying Clarke and bringing him to justice.

Pair plead guilty after death of man outside Working Men’s Club in Yorkshire
Jake Wells pleaded guilty to manslaughter over the death of 53-year-old Doncaster man Jason Gaskin, who was killed outside Park Social Working Men’s Club in Balby in October 2023. James Neeson pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. Both men have been released on conditional bail and are due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on October 19, 2026.

Watch: Cash, Cocaine and Stolen Motorbike Seized in Dawn Raids
Police raided a property on Muirhead Drive in Bradford’s Holmewood area during Operation Sweetgill, seizing approximately £4,000 in cash, crack cocaine, a knife, mobile phones and a stolen motorcycle. A 45-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of involvement in supplying Class A drugs and remained in custody. Sergeant Charlie Smallwood said the operation formed part of efforts to disrupt drug supply and associated violence, urging the public to report suspicious activity.

Man arrested on suspicion of burglary after theft of cattle in North Yorkshire
A man in his 30s from West Yorkshire has been arrested on suspicion of burglary following the reported theft of several cattle from the Ripley area of North Yorkshire on July 26. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue, and arrangements are being made for the cattle’s safe return to the farmer. Man Guilty of Murdering Vulnerable Flat-Mate After Brutal New Year's Day Attack
Scott Silkstone, 51, has been found guilty at Leeds Crown Court of murdering his vulnerable flat-mate, Dwayne Tuohey, on New Year’s Day 2026. Tuohey, a 55-year-old amputee, was allegedly attacked inside his Leeds flat with several objects before Silkstone dragged him outside and repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped on him. Tuohey later died in hospital from severe injuries. West Yorkshire Police said the attack was prolonged, degrading and carried out against a defenceless man. Silkstone’s sentencing is scheduled for 7 September.

Elderly woman dies after two-car collision in Sheffield as three others injured
An 88-year-old woman died after sustaining serious injuries as a passenger in a Honda Jazz involved in a two-car collision with a Nissan Note on Ranmoor Park Road in Sheffield. The Honda driver, also 88, was injured and later discharged, while two other passengers in their 80s suffered minor injuries. Police are appealing for witnesses and relevant dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage.

Wetherby Services: Overnight Ram Raid on Services with Theft from Cash Machines
Four masked men allegedly used an older-model Nissan Juke to ram into Wetherby Services near the M&S Food store and steal an &PLAY cash payout machine at about 2am on July 29. The vehicle was later recovered in Leeds after being set on fire, with the stolen machine inside.
