Hillsborough Law set to be approved by MPs before summer break
Legislators are expected to approve the Hillsborough Law after the government agreed to advance the Public Office (Accountability) Bill with an amendment ensuring intelligence services are included under a new duty of candour. Campaigners, survivors and relatives of victims welcomed the move, crediting commitments from Keir Starmer and Andy Burnham. The bill aims to strengthen public accountability, prevent official cover‑ups and ensure truthfulness in investigations. Approval by the House of Commons next week would allow the legislation to become law by autumn.
