Sprowston Woman Allowed to Open Nail Salon in Her Garage
Broadland District Council approved Miss Bowthorpe’s application to convert her garage on Wilks Farm Drive in Sprowston into a nail salon. Sprowston Town Council initially objected over parking and road-safety concerns arising from a shared driveway, but later withdrew its objection. Norfolk County Council highways officials raised no concerns, citing the one-to-one booking system and 15-minute gaps between appointments, which should limit visitor traffic to one car at a time.

City fan travels 50,000 miles in 30 years to Carrow Road
Jonathan Martindale is celebrating 30 years of travelling from Donaghadee near Belfast to Norwich's Carrow Road to watch Norwich City. He has made biannual trips totalling roughly 50,000 miles since first encountering the club during its 1995 pre-season tour at Ards FC. A friendship with Norwich supporter Brian Pointer developed through correspondence and shared matchdays, eventually becoming a family tradition involving Martindale's wife Christina and son Jack. Martindale plans to attend the weekend game with Christina, while Jack plays for Ards FC.

Calls for cycle path in plans for Sainsbury's near Blofield
Broadland district councillor Eleanor Laming has objected to plans by Hemingford Ltd for a Sainsbury’s supermarket, two cafés and a solar park near the McDonald’s on the A47 in Brundall. She is calling for a three-metre-wide cycle path linking the proposed development with Blofield, citing safety concerns for cyclists, pedestrians and people using pushchairs along Yarmouth Road. The developer says the path would require removing mature hedges that screen nearby homes and could encroach into the existing carriageway. Broadland District Council has not yet ruled on the plans.

Bid to demolish former Debenhams building has been withdrawn
Plans to demolish Norwich’s former Debenhams building for a 377-room student accommodation scheme have been withdrawn after Fun Parx announced it will convert the five-storey property into an indoor family entertainment centre. The company expects to open by summer next year, with work already under way to strip and tidy the building. The previous redevelopment had received planning approval but became controversial amid objections from the University of East Anglia and was later deemed unviable in the current economic climate.

Nigel Brock's Battle Against Gas Hill Crime Ends in Victory
After 11 years of loud shouting, trespassing and intimidating behaviour near his home in Gas Hill, 70-year-old Nigel Brock says conditions around White William Place have significantly improved. The change followed his formal complaint to Norfolk Police's Professional Standards Department and increased cooperation among neighbourhood teams, housing providers and other local partners. Police confirmed that additional patrols were part of the response and reported a reduction in anti-social behaviour. Brock remains concerned about traffic on Riverside Road and is considering moving to a quieter location.

Why is there scaffolding around Bell Hotel Wetherspoons?
The Bell Hotel Wetherspoons on Orford Hill in Norwich is surrounded by scaffolding while contractors carry out exterior repairs and redecorating. The pub remains open, with the scaffolding expected to be removed on August 12. Norwich City Council has also approved extended opening hours, provided staff take steps to minimise noise for nearby residents. The 15th-century building is one of the oldest UK properties to house a Wetherspoon pub.
