Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer has taken on the role of dance teacher Mavis in Eastbourne Devonshire Park Theatre’s production of Richard Harris’s comedy Stepping Out. Hauer, who left Strictly in 2025 after appearing on the BBC programme since 2012, says the role came at an important time and reminded her of her own dance teacher. She has praised the production’s themes of friendship, shared experiences and community while enjoying her time in Eastbourne.

Former Communards singer Sarah Jane Morris has created a second concept album inspired by 11 female artists, including Tracy Chapman, Amy Winehouse, Dolly Parton, Sinéad O’Connor and Peggy Seeger. She says researching their lives and careers deepened her appreciation for their influence on popular music. The project began during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown and follows her first album, The Sisterhood, co-written with Tony Remy. Morris also praised contemporary singer Raye and remains in regular contact with her former Communards bandmates, who are now based in Sussex.

Leo Sayer reflects on his upbringing in Shoreham and across West Sussex, describing how the area shaped his songwriting as he prepares for an upcoming UK tour. He recalls local memories, including family anecdotes, and says staying active with music keeps him feeling young. The tour begins in Bexhill before continuing to Worthing, Folkestone and London, with additional dates across the UK.
