Three equal pay claims connected to Cumbria’s reorganized councils were struck out after claimants withdrew the original claims against the wrong employer. A Manchester employment tribunal ruled that re‑submitted claims were identical to those previously withdrawn and were barred under cause of action estoppel and tribunal rules. Judge Cookson deemed the claims an abuse of process and ordered the claimants to pay more than £6,000 in legal costs. The decision applies only to these three claims and does not affect the wider equal pay case involving around 2,500 council workers.
