Choose your England team to play France in World Cup third-fourth play-off match
England will face France in the unwanted World Cup third-fourth play-off, with both managers expected to consider wholesale changes. Thomas Tuchel could rest established stars such as Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham while giving Kobbie Mainoo an opportunity, whereas France manager Didier Deschamps may also rotate his lineup in his final match in charge. The match could nevertheless affect player statistics and the Golden Boot race.

Best and Worst GP Practices in England Revealed: See How Your Local Family Doctor Fared
An analysis of England’s 2026 GP Patient Survey, covering 650,000 patients, finds that 76.7% rated their overall practice experience as good, up from 73.9% the previous year, while around one in ten rated their practice poor or very poor. Use our energy price cap calculator to see how much your bill will rise by this July
Ofgem’s energy price cap will rise by 13% in July, increasing the typical direct-debit household bill in England, Scotland and Wales from £1,641 to £1,862 a year—an annual increase of £221, or about £18 a month. The increase is attributed to higher wholesale gas prices linked to conflict in the Middle East. The cap limits unit and standing-charge rates rather than total bills, so actual costs vary by usage. Ofgem advises households to consider fixed tariffs, payment-method changes and cheaper electricity periods, while noting that the new cap remains below the levels seen during the 2022 energy crisis.

Dog attacks almost double since pandemic 'as society disintegrates' - see where bites have shot up
Police recorded at least 29,400 out-of-control dog attacks causing injury in the UK in 2025, up 5% from 2024 and nearly double the pre-pandemic figure. The Metropolitan Police recorded the most incidents, followed by Greater Manchester Police, while Lincolnshire had the highest reported rate relative to population among forces providing comparable data. Experts, victims’ families and the RSPCA said the rise reflects multiple factors, including more dog ownership, inadequate training, irresponsible owners and broader social stress. They also argued that the XL Bully ban has not addressed the wider problem and may be encouraging the breeding of smaller bully types intended to evade the rules. NHS data showed dog-bite admissions in England remained near record levels in the year ending March 2025.
