Andy Burnham labels death of former Glasgow University professor 'a tragedy'
Former Cambridge and Glasgow University professor Jason Arday was found dead at a property in Battersea, with police treating the death as unexpected but not suspicious. Prime Minister Andy Burnham called it a tragedy and urged reflection rather than rushed judgment, while First Minister John Swinney warned commentators to consider the impact of their criticism. Cambridge professor Simon Baron-Cohen said Arday had been subjected to relentless scrutiny and felt unable to continue after allegations about plagiarism and other claims concerning his academic career. Arday's family described a sustained campaign of abuse, while Liverpool John Moores University had cleared him of wrongdoing. His memoir, Great And Unfortunate Things, was due to be published later in August.
