Signage to be removed from Liverpool's former Radio City tower
Signage bearing the Radio City 96.7 logo is expected to be removed from Liverpool’s Grade II listed St Johns Beacon after more than 25 years. The radio station left the tower in 2024 after relocating and rebranding as Hits Radio, leaving the building vacant. A planning application proposes replacing the logo with an animated LED screen, while no other external changes are planned. Liverpool City Council has yet to set a date for its planning committee to decide on the application.

Liverpool Council moves to throw out parking charge challenge
Liverpool City Council has applied to dismiss a judicial review challenging its decision to extend city centre parking charges to 23:00. Business leaders, led by former councillor Alfie Hincks, argue the policy harms the night-time economy and is unlawful. The council maintains it followed all legal requirements and has asked the court to strike out the claim on procedural grounds. The dispute follows widespread public opposition and more than 7,000 drivers being affected in the scheme’s first three months.

Merseyrail to be brought back into public control
Merseyrail will return to public control in 2028 when the current concession ends, with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority preparing to take over operations. Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and council leader Liam Robinson said public ownership will allow services to be shaped around community needs rather than profit. The move aligns with the region’s plan to bring bus services back under public control and follows assessments of legal and financial requirements with the Department for Transport. Officials describe the shift as a significant step toward prioritising passengers over shareholders.
