Drug addict ex-soldier who swindled dad claimed stolen cash was spent on Harley-Davidson parts
Former soldier Peter Jones, 45, stole about £21,000 from his father Robert Jones through bank transfers, cash withdrawals and credit-card payments between August 2023 and May 2024. He claimed some money was for Harley-Davidson parts, but the court heard it was spent on heroin and crack cocaine. Robert's niece Louise Jones uncovered the fraud after noticing suspicious payments, prompting a police investigation. Jones pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud by false representation and received an 18-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months, along with 20 days of rehabilitation activity. His defence cited trauma, bereavement and addiction treatment, including methadone and counselling.
