An independent investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct has begun after a 52-year-old man died in police custody at the Windmill Road custody suite in Croydon. Officers found him unresponsive during overnight checks, provided first aid and called the London Ambulance Service, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. He had been arrested on a no-bail warrant after failing to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on a charge of being drunk and disorderly. The Metropolitan Police Service said he had received healthcare attention and regular welfare checks, and pledged full support for the investigation.

An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital after being found with knife injuries on Sumner Road in Croydon on August 18. Police said his injuries were non-life-threatening and appealed for witnesses to contact them, citing reference 3640/18AUG, or to provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers.

A cyclist in his 60s was taken to hospital after a collision with a bus on Cherry Orchard Road in Croydon. Emergency services responded shortly after 6:50 a.m., and the man's injuries were later assessed as neither life‑threatening nor life‑changing. Several bus routes were diverted due to road closures. Police are appealing for information and have provided contact details for witnesses.
