Plan to track progress on lifting 550,000 children out of poverty published
The government outlines how progress toward reducing child poverty will be monitored under the Child Poverty Strategy, using baseline data from 2024–25 and two main poverty metrics. Early measures such as ending the two‑child limit, expanding free school meals and creating a Crisis and Resilience Fund are expected to lift 550,000 children out of poverty. A programme of research, evaluation and annual reporting will track impacts over the strategy’s ten‑year span, supported by cross‑government coordination and collaboration with devolved administrations. Both the work and education secretaries emphasise the strategy’s role in providing families with support and improving long‑term outcomes for children.
