Winfrith decommissioned nuclear site restoration plans
Plans to restore the former Winfrith nuclear site to heathland face likely opposition from the neighbouring Innovation Park, which seeks to retain some of the land for job creation. The Nuclear Decommissioning Agency’s long‑term masterplan proposes full ecological restoration following an estimated 8–10 years of remaining decommissioning. Dorset Council officials indicated the need to consider alternative uses for part of the land. The Innovation Park reported significantly higher business rate retention than forecast, strengthening its financial position and supporting its goal of expanding employment and development on Dorset’s only Enterprise Zone.
