Police issue statement after creepy 'Cat in the Hat' character pictured loitering
AI-generated images depicting a life-size Cat in the Hat figure outside homes and roaming Irish communities caused concern online. Gardaí in Wexford said the images were fabricated using an AI prompt and confirmed that no such character had been present in local neighbourhoods. Similar hoaxes circulated in Limerick, Cork, Tipperary, Dublin and Wexford. The incident follows an earlier UK prank involving a fake AI-generated homeless man that prompted police calls, leading authorities to urge people to verify suspicious images before contacting emergency services.
