Police speak out after creepy 'Cat in the Hat' pictured terrorising neighbourhood
AI-generated images depicting a life-size Cat in the Hat figure outside homes and in public spaces caused alarm in parts of Ireland, including Limerick, Cork, Tipperary, Wexford and Dublin. Wexford Gardaí confirmed that the images were fabricated using an AI prompt and said the character had not actually been seen in residents’ driveways or neighbourhoods. The hoax spread through Facebook and other social media alongside false claims that police were investigating it. Dorset Police have previously warned people to verify similar AI-generated pranks before calling emergency services.
