Efren Pulgaron

EFREN PULGARON is a journalist based in New York, United States of America.

I was born in Havana Cuba in 1965, I immigrated to the United States of America as a political refugee with my family in 1999.  My curiosity and natural inquisitiveness for investigation led me to become a freelance reporter(1996-1999) until the last of my fifteen incarcerations which resulted in the “option” to leave Cuba.

My experiences in Cuba as an opposition figure connected me with Oswaldo Paya Sardiñas (1992-1996) and his Movimiento Cristiano Liberacion and to independent reporting with Cuba press; which still documents my involvement and participation in its website. My increasing dedication to news reporting resulted in additional hardship for my family and me which eventually required the intervention of international news and watchdog organizations.

Since my employment in Radio Marti I have kept in contact with the political climate of Miami, as well as my contacts with dissidents in Cuba; however, every single day I reflect upon the responsibilities and privileges of being a reporter.

Currently I am running a YouTube Channel for CubaPress based in New York focusing on the the stories of the opposition in Cuba.
