August Bank Holiday weather update as Met Office breaks silence on washout or sixth heatwave
The Met Office forecasts unsettled and variable conditions across much of the UK through late August, with rain and showers more likely in northern and western areas. The August Bank Holiday weekend may bring drier, more settled weather to southern and eastern regions, while temperatures are expected to be near or above average. A late-season hot spell or sixth heatwave remains possible, particularly in southern England, but greater certainty is not expected until around August 24–27 because long-range forecasts cannot provide reliable local detail.

Households Living Near Pylons to Get £2,500: Full List of 43 Locations
Households living within 500 metres of eligible new or upgraded overhead transmission lines may receive about £250 annually, totaling £2,500 over 10 years, beginning in 2027. The scheme is expected to cover more than 100,000 households across England, Scotland and Wales, with discounts generally paid automatically through energy suppliers once projects receive consent and construction begins. Projects starting construction on or after 10 March 2025 qualify, while some commercial-meter customers may need to apply. The government has identified 43 expected project locations, including schemes led by National Grid Electricity Transmission, SSEN Transmission and SP Energy Networks.
