Fans gathered in Swansea and the Mumbles to mourn singer Bonnie Tyler, whose coffin was carried into Swansea Minster to the soundtrack of her hits. Hundreds applauded, shouted goodbye and sang “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” as her funeral procession passed. Fans and talent scout Roger Bell remembered Tyler as a down-to-earth, warm and generous performer who remained closely connected to Swansea. Her family requested donations to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales and Cerebral Palsy Cymru.

Eight men aged 54 to 76 appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court charged with a combined 40 historical child sexual exploitation offences allegedly committed against women when they were children between 1985 and 1996. The defendants did not enter pleas and were released on conditional bail. They are due to appear at Cardiff Crown Court on August 21. A ninth man, Aminur Rahman Chowdhury, was separately charged with rape as part of the investigation.

An inquest found that former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Kum Weng Chung died at his Cardiff home from positional asphyxia after falling between cluttered furniture linked to longstanding hoarding. The 90-year-old, originally from Malaysia, had lived alone and struggled with debt and mental health issues. The coroner confirmed no suspicious circumstances, and British Weightlifting issued tributes acknowledging his sporting achievements and extending condolences.
