Devastating France wildfires edge closer to Bordeaux as heatwave looms
Major wildfires in south-west France have spread to within nine miles of Bordeaux, where temperatures are expected to reach 41°C. More than 260,000 people have been evacuated across the region, over 42,000 hectares have burned and two firefighters have died, with 88 injured. Bordeaux authorities are preparing for further evacuations, while President Emmanuel Macron calls the crisis France’s worst fire-related emergency since World War II. Fires are also prompting evacuations near Madrid in neighboring Spain, where officials have linked the disaster to the climate emergency and warned that rising temperatures will make the coming days critical.

Woman, 31, killed in horror alligator attack where both arms are ripped off
A Florida woman, Brittany Clark, died after being attacked by an alligator while swimming in shallow water during a hike in the Little Big Econ State Forest near Orlando. Her boyfriend, Chance Allison, attempted to fight the alligator and administer CPR but was unable to save her. Authorities removed and euthanised two large alligators from the area for DNA testing. State wildlife officials reported that fatal alligator attacks are rare, with only 26 recorded in Florida since 1948.
