Race to tackle France wildfires raging closer to Bordeaux as 41C heatwave threatens
Major wildfires have burned more than 42,000 hectares across France, displaced over 260,000 people and moved to within nine miles of Bordeaux. Fire crews have stabilised the largest blaze, but flare-ups continue and at least 93 firefighters have been injured, with two fatalities reported. Authorities are preparing for further evacuations as temperatures in south-western France could reach 41C. Fires near Madrid have also prompted evacuation orders for about 63,000 people, prompting Spanish officials to warn of a critical period ahead.
