Six senior players from the Cogan Coronation Junior Darts Corporation Academy coached Year 7 and 8 pupils at Pencoedtre High School in Barry as part of the Food & Fun summer programme. The young mentors taught basic darting techniques through games and challenges, supported by coaches Kate Pridham, Russ and Andrew. Academy director Kate Pridham praised the players for giving back to the community and acting as role models. The academy provides structured darts coaching for young people across Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan.

Christopher Phillips, 60, of Porthcawl, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to preventing the lawful and decent burial of a dead body and fraud by false representation. Police discovered his mother Sylvia Phillips’s body in a freezer at their home after concerns that she had not been seen by medical professionals since 2022. Phillips had claimed she was in London, and investigators said he concealed her death and financially profited from it. A post-mortem examination was conducted, but the cause of death remains undetermined.

A 20‑year‑old Sully man, Teddy Picton, received a seven‑year youth custody sentence and a driving ban after admitting to causing the death of 72‑year‑old cyclist Brad Craven in a collision in Cardiff. Picton had consumed alcohol and cocaine the night before and was driving with only a provisional licence. Craven, who was clearly visible and cycling with his brother, died in hospital five weeks after the incident. The judge highlighted Craven’s character and the impact of the loss on his family while issuing the sentence.
