Jos Buttler: How England man became T20 cricket's GOAT
Jos Buttler became the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket after surpassing Kieron Pollard's 14,803 runs, reaching 14,833 during a 51-run innings for Manchester Super Giants. The 35-year-old's 522-match career includes nine T20 centuries since 2021, exceptional powerplay and death-over statistics, and a technique built on strong wrists, a stable base and aggressive off-side hitting. His experience across Test and white-ball cricket, versatility against most bowling types and ability to handle the pressure of being a marquee player are identified as key reasons for his longevity. Despite a poor 2026 World Cup, his form and record suggest he could remain central to England's plans for the 2028 tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Ukraine appeals IOC decision to reinstate Russia
Ukraine's National Olympic Committee has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the IOC's decision to provisionally reinstate the Russian Olympic Committee. The IOC lifted Russia's suspension on 7 July 2026, potentially allowing Russian athletes to compete under their national identity at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Ukraine argues that the decision was premature, failed to resolve violations involving sports organizations in occupied Ukrainian territories, and contradicts the Olympic Charter and international sports law. Russian and Belarusian athletes competed as neutrals at the 2024 and 2026 Olympics, while Russia remains banned by FIFA and Belarus remains barred by World Athletics.

Only use VAR when error blatant - Uefa referee chiefs
European refereeing officials have agreed that VAR should return to its original purpose: overturning only blatantly incorrect decisions and clear missed incidents in relation to goals, penalties, direct red cards and mistaken identity. UEFA warned that lengthy, highly detailed reviews amount to re-refereeing matches and should be limited. Officials also backed clarifications to the mistaken-identity rule and new measures intended to reduce delays from goal-kicks, throw-ins, substitutions, injuries and goalkeeper timeouts. Analysis notes that while the changes may improve VAR, the subjective meaning of “clear and obvious” means controversy over individual decisions is likely to continue.
