More than 200 deaths with suspected links to weight loss jabs reported to watchdog
More than 200 suspected death reports and over 150,000 adverse-reaction reports involving GLP-1 medicines have been submitted to the UK's MHRA Yellow Card Scheme. The reports include 120 deaths linked by reporters to tirzepatide, sold as Mounjaro; 59 linked to semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy, Ozempic and Rybelsus; and 37 linked to liraglutide, sold as Saxenda. The MHRA emphasized that the reports indicate suspicions rather than confirmed causes and said the benefits of GLP-1 medicines outweigh potential risks when used as authorized. Research from University College London estimated that 1.6 million adults in Great Britain had recently used weight-loss drugs, while 3.3 million more were interested in doing so, raising concerns about use outside medical supervision and potential misuse.
