North London teacher sacked after admitting to using crystal meth to ‘relax’
A Teaching Regulation Agency panel ruled that Charles Miles, a 64-year-old former English and learning-support teacher at Dwight School London, committed serious misconduct by using crystal meth while employed. Miles said he used the drug on weekends to relax and considered his use controlled and a private matter, but the panel found limited insight or remorse and said the conduct could damage public confidence in the teaching profession. Although he retired in summer 2025, he was banned from teaching indefinitely and may seek a review after five years. The school said it had prevented him from returning in October 2024, collaborated with authorities, and found no impact on pupils’ safety or wellbeing.
