Rare and highly infectious scabies outbreak shuts Welsh hospital ward
A ward at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen has been closed after an outbreak of crusted scabies, with health officials linking the incident to increased scabies prevalence across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Hywel Dda University Health Board has notified and treated all identified contacts and implemented enhanced infection‑control measures. The situation is being monitored, and the ward will reopen once it is considered safe.
