Wildlife charities are urging gardeners to provide fresh, clean water for hedgehogs and birds during hot, dry weather. Water containers should be washed and dried daily, positioned away from predators and feeding stations, and designed to let insects and hedgehogs escape. Gardeners are also advised to maintain ponds, take care when mowing or lighting bonfires, and give hedgehogs water rather than milk; meaty cat or dog food may also be offered.
